{"id":10077,"date":"2010-04-14T12:35:10","date_gmt":"2010-04-14T17:35:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=10077"},"modified":"2010-04-14T12:49:02","modified_gmt":"2010-04-14T17:49:02","slug":"jason-lewis-is-right","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=10077","title":{"rendered":"Jason Lewis Is Right"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was enjoying an all-too-rare hour of listening to Jason Lewis the other day.<\/p>\n<p>Years ago, when I ran an annual &#8220;State of Twin Cities Talk Radio&#8221; feature, a solid year before the Northern Alliance Radio Network went on the air (I discontinued the series when the show started, due to my obvious bias); in it, I noted at least once that &#8220;Jason Lewis is the host I&#8217;d like to be when I grow up&#8221;.\u00a0 And that day was one of the broadcasts where I realized exactly why.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not one of those people who bays &#8220;politics is the worst it&#8217;s ever been&#8221;; it&#8217;s not.\u00a0 1928 was bad; 1828 was worse (albeit for many of the same reasons it&#8217;s bad today, only on steroids).\u00a0\u00a0 But it <em>is <\/em>getting pretty bad these days.<\/p>\n<p>And not because people aren&#8217;t &#8220;bipartisan&#8221;.\u00a0 &#8220;Bipartisanship&#8221; is a chimera; taken to an illogical extreme, it is antidemocratic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And in a multipolar political world, people are going to disagree &#8211; on issues, and on lesser things.<\/p>\n<p>To paraphrase Lewis, we need to avoid bagging on the lesser things &#8211; especially personalities and personal attacks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Conservatives: Barack Obama was born a US Citizens.\u00a0 Even if he wasn&#8217;t, it&#8217;s really too late to do anything about it; but it&#8217;s a moot point, because <em>he is<\/em>.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/firstread.msnbc.msn.com\/archive\/2010\/04\/13\/2267021.aspx\">Get a grip<\/a>.\u00a0 And he&#8217;s not a Marxist or a communist, and won&#8217;t be until he opens re-education camps somewhere in Utah.\u00a0 He&#8217;s a cut-rate Richard Daley, not Josef Stalin.\u00a0\u00a0 He&#8217;s a fabian statist, all right &#8211; and he got elected President.\u00a0 He&#8217;s doing the job that 52% of your most gullible neighbors sent him to Washington to do, for now.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s see if we can fix that in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>And yeah, the left is doing it, too.\u00a0 Unable to fight the Tea Party and the resurgent grassroots right on the issues, they&#8217;re going for the ad-homina, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2009\/04\/15\/anderson-cooper-its-hard_n_187318.html\">name-calling<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sc-dc-health-backlash-20100324,0,1104621.story\">fearmongering <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thefoxnation.com\/breibart\/2010\/03\/26\/breitbart-10000-if-you-can-prove-n-word-hurled-rep-lewis\">slander<\/a>,\u00a0and the <a href=\"http:\/\/firstread.msnbc.msn.com\/archive\/2010\/04\/13\/2267021.aspx\">yellow hackery<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; all standard drills for people who are running on intellectual empty, and need to count on their opponents to react to an ofay provocation to dig themselves out of the hole they&#8217;ve dug.<\/p>\n<p>Americans need to be smarter.\u00a0 Conservatives, in particular, need to be smarter than the opposition; we&#8217;re fighting against a full-court media press that is at present fully in the bag for the President.<\/p>\n<p>And this president is <em>so easy <\/em>to attack on the issues; he&#8217;s really been an incompetent disaster, so far, except inasmuch as he&#8217;s copied Bush&#8217;s policies that worked.\u00a0 There is no <em>need <\/em>to barber on about his birth certificate, his religion or his labels; he is so weak on the issues that there&#8217;s no excuse for it.<\/p>\n<p>Because when he&#8217;s essentially destroying, in the long run, everything that ever made this nation great, who really cares where he worshipped as a child?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was enjoying an all-too-rare hour of listening to Jason Lewis the other day.
