{"id":1006,"date":"2007-07-03T04:49:22","date_gmt":"2007-07-03T10:49:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/index.php\/index.php\/2007\/07\/03\/the-true-crime\/"},"modified":"2007-07-03T12:28:25","modified_gmt":"2007-07-03T18:28:25","slug":"the-true-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.shotinthedark.info\/wp\/?p=1006","title":{"rendered":"The True Crime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Paul Schmelzer at the MinMon <a href=\"http:\/\/minnesotamonitor.com\/showDiary.do?diaryId=2001\">writes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"story\"><strong>City Pages accused of fabricating quote:<\/strong> City Pages&#8217; Peter Scholtes is getting heat for his cover story, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/citypages.com\/databank\/28\/1386\/article15589.asp\">Where the ladies at?<\/a>&#8221; Among the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mnspeak.com\/mnspeak\/archive\/post-3403.cfm\">complaints<\/a> about his piece on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bgirlbe.com\/\">B-Girl Be<\/a> hip-hop festival: that he fabricated quotes.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"story\">Perhaps a more appropriate accusation against Scholtes:\u00a0 &#8220;Where the ladies at?&#8221; is a gruellingly-long exercise in name-dropping (if one can drop names that nobody outside of the Twin Cities&#8217; rap scene knows) that seems intended to get him invited to a higher grade of afterparties, but does a lousy job of telling the story of the Cities&#8217; female hip hop scene.\u00a0 While it seems to be a flak piece for the &#8220;B-Girl Be&#8221; female rap festival, it even does a lousy job of flakking.<\/div>\n<div class=\"story\" \/>\n<div class=\"story\">It evokes the ghost of Margaret Grebe, an old &#8220;Twin Cities Reader&#8221; writer whose fatuous body of work chronicled the lives of dissipate Twin Cities hipsters by gurgitating Twin Cities hipster trivia that, Grebe breathlessly assured us, she was observing first-hand.\u00a0 The &#8220;Why&#8221; was never very clear.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paul Schmelzer at the MinMon writes: City Pages accused of fabricating quote: City Pages&#8217; Peter Scholtes is getting heat for his cover story, &#8220;Where the ladies at?&#8221; Among the complaints about his piece on the B-Girl Be hip-hop festival: that he fabricated quotes.
