AOC: “It’s All About Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!”

After spending the past week wrapping herself in traumatic victimhood (and sliming a Capitol cop in the bargain) for her experience in the January 6 riot, it turns out that she wasn’t nearly as close to the danger as her teary Instagram video might have made it seem:

Allahpundit looked into this on Tuesday, but the story behind Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s massively popular Instagram video where she describes her experience during the January 6th Capitol Hill riot keeps growing more convoluted. Despite claiming that she thought she “was going to die” and at least insinuating that rioters were attempting to break into her office, AOC wasn’t even in the actual Capitol Building when all of the action went down. Over at RedState, Nick Arama breaks down the distinctions between reality and perception. AOC’s office is in the Cannon Building which was never breached during the riot. She was briefly evacuated along with everyone else there, but other members were in immediate danger inside the Capitol Building and were far more at risk.

The writer – Jazz Shaw at Hot Air – points out he believes the #AlexandriaOcasioSmollett hashtag that erupted earlier this week on Twitter may have been a little off target – the Representative certainly didn’t concoct the riot from whole cloth.

I’m sure that AOC was legitimately afraid during the riot and with good reason. Assuming there’s a television in her office and she had the news on she would have known that hundreds of angry people were busting up the Capitol Building and acting in a threatening fashion. Given her unusually high profile for a very junior member, it would be reasonable for her to believe that some of the rioters could present a physical danger to her.

With all of that said, however, AOC failed to make one thing clear in her video (which quickly amassed more than six million views). At no time did any rioters enter the hallway where her office is located and it’s not clear that any of them ever entered any part of the Cannon Building at all. The one person who did reach her office was a Capitol Hill Police officer who was coming to evacuate her and her staffer. They had located a suspicious package (which was later cleared as being random and mundane) so they were getting everyone out of the building in an abundance of caution.

Leaving aside the sliming of the Capitol cop – who had a whole building to evacuate as his colleagues were being overrun a few blocks away – and even if you don’t make the Smollett comparison, I do find one thing intensely troubling.

The whole episode – the assault on the electoral process as well as a riot that led to five deaths, directly or indirectly – to her is nothing but a stage for…

…Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. Her feelings, her sense of assumed victimnood…her.

To AOC, AOC is always the real story – by way of using that story to slime her boogeymen-du-jour.

UPDATE: I’m going to expand on this just a tad.

AOC was about as far from the Capitol riot as I was from the pharmacy that burned down, about 1000 feet from my house, during the riots.

Were either of us under immediate threat? No. Were both of us right to be nervous? Yep.

Should either of us be appropriating the experiences of those who were in immediate danger?

Let’s just call it emotionally manipulative overkill and hope everyone can do better in the future.

  1. We still don’t know what happened.
It turns that the cop who was supposedly beaten to death with a fire extinguisher, did not, in fact, suffer blunt force trauma. Instead, he seems to have died from a bad reaction to tear gas.

  2. ^^ You haven’t fully grasped the fact that the last president very sincerely tried his hardest to use the powers of his office to overturn the lawful and legitimate outcome of an election. Not just venting. Not silly tweets. But a genuine effort to end our democracy.

And people say there’s not at least two justice systems. Charge them all. If you entered the building through a smashed window or busted door, you trespassed on the most federal of federal properties. Or is accountability and deterrence only for minorities and the poor? I give up.

On another note: I’m not a fan of AOC politics — but I find it very entertaining how she triggers mediocre people.

  3. Get grip Emery.
Antifa and BLM thugs occupy a police station — no problem. Trump contests an election held under radically changed rules, and he is inciting insurrection.
As noted elsewhere, the US congress, held by the Dems under the slimmest of majorities, wants to dictate who the people can and cannot elect president.
Your concern for democracy and constitutional order is highly selective.

  4. 👆👆Look squirrel — BLM … Antifa

Trump lied about the election results for 60 days, despite losing 64 straight court challenges — many handed down by Trump-appointed judges. He lied by saying that the vice president could violate his constitutional oath and just declare a new winner.

He then riled up a mob that attacked the Capitol — many chanting “Hang Pence.” If that president were a Democrat, we both know how you’d respond. But, because he had “Republican” behind his name, you’re defending him.

  5. Again, Emery, you are making the mistake of thinking I am defending Trump when I am attacking you & your emotion driven “reasoning.”
Trump is a big boy. He can defend himself.

  6. Ratface has really been taking a beating in the media, and from female Republicans.

Her defense is to spew inchoate leftist talking points that don’t come close to the issue.

What is it with leftist reprobates and lying, Reek? Fapliar?

  7. “ despite losing 64 straight court challenges ”

Another lie. Jfc…the bullshit spills from these gimps like garbage from an overturned dumpster. They have no mechanism to stop themselves.

  8. Emery and Trump, Gollum and The One Ring.

They hate them and they love them, but they just can’t get away from them.

Like when a comment thread comes along on another topic …

  9. I have to admit — the verbal ass whooping John K gave Swift was a thing of beauty. Many are saying Swift has lost his trolling skills.

  10. SiTD view of things:

AOC hiding in the bathroom fearing for her life — overdramatic

GOP members cowering in the senate chamber fearing for their lives — strategic defense.

Would that be the John K who pushed the fake news “rioters beat a cop to death with a fire extinguisher” meme?
    Birds of a feather . . .

  12. Yeah, NW, Trump’s been out of office for a couple of weeks. I haven’t thought about him much since then.
But he is occupying all the real estate in Emery’s head. The Orange Man looms in his mind like a colossus, haunts his dreams and his fears . . .

  13. SiTD view of things

    Both untrue.

Cheap and false shot noted, called out, mocked and taunted.

  14. You haven’t fully grasped the fact that the last president very sincerely tried his hardest to use the powers of his office to overturn the lawful and legitimate outcome of an election.

There seems to be a dearth of evidence that the last president did what you allege.

  15. Woolly wrote: “Trump is a big boy. He can defend himself.”

Trump won’t do it. He’s impotent. Weak. Soft. Mentally incapable of defending himself.

  16. Fake but Accurate. Get with the program people!

And Mitch, please stop the constant, incessant threadjacking, It turns your beloved 19 year blog into SHIT!

  17. MBerg: It’s pretty funny to see the same people who demanded “Antifa” be designated a terrorist group now squealing about the treatment of their own extremists after the attempted coup and failed insurrection.

  18. Emery just can’t stop talking about Trump — but he thinks that I am obsessed with Trump. Typical #TDS. It’s a mental disease.

  19. I don’t know anyone who is “squealing about the treatment of their own extremists.” Interesting admission on Emery’s part that antifa & BLM are his extremists.

  20. Attempted coup by . . . COWMAN!!
    It’s 20,000 nationalized troops against . . . COWMAN!!!
Cowman is so powerful I had to add write his name in all-caps & add three exclamation points.
Representing the vegan Trumpist corp, I suppose, LOL.
Meanwhile, great patriot Jerry Nadler refuses to start committee meetings with the pledge of allegiance.

  21. Genuine question — Why so much hate, sir? How is Shaman (cow) insurrectionist worse than any of the other Capitol insurrectionists?

  22. In the mind of Emery, protesters charged with trespassing are “insurrectionists.”
Find the laws they broke, charge ’em, and put them on trial.
This is America, not Russia, you know. There is no “Trump exception” to the constitution & the rule of law.

  23. 80 million people voted for Donald Trump, he had complete control of the military, several hundred thousand fans were standing in front of his podium listening to his speech, he tried the very hardest he could to overturn the election and end democracy in America, but the best he could manage was . . . Buffalo Man?

Can you truly not tell how bat-shit crazy that idea is?

  24. Say Reek? I can’t find where your girlfriend Fapliar gave “Tom Swift” or anyone else an ass whooping.

The trail ends where he scuttled off like a crushed cockroach when I called him out for the lying twat he is.

    Can you help me out?

    Ty

  25. My favorite part of this is how Snopes admitted that the claim AOC wasn’t in the building was true, but declared the statement that she was being misleading was false because feelings or something. Pretty sad; Snopes used to be somewhat useful until they went PC.

  26. Say Reek? Genuine question.

How come your girlfriend, Fapliar has crawled off like a wimpering cut, once again?

Xe’s not much of a comfort to you, are they?

    #sad

  27. Bubba, do you know the history behind Snopes?

Lol. No, they were never useful for anything other than giving ignorant, leftist comment trolls a link.

  28. Yeah,Herr Doktor Professor Strunk, all of humanity with a few brain cells to spark together have noticed that instead of proposing a thing, and making arguments in favor of it, the Left long ago began to issue “Truths” which must be agreed to before “discussion” can continue.
It used to be just global warming, but now it includes the insane idea that men must be called women if they say so. They have turned the insanity knob up to eleven.

  29. Say, Emery, do you think that Rachel Levine is a natural blonde?
Cuz I don’t think so. It seems to me that Rachel Levine, no matter what she claims, is not a natural blonde.
    You people are fucking nuts.

  30. Say Tom— any more stock tips for us after last week when you declared “the bubble was bursting”. Did you take all your succulent profits then? Or are you holding? Which is it?
‘Were you lying then or are you lying now?’

  31. The pro-Trump trolling on here is out of control and hilarious! Guys, it’s over.Trump isn’t capable of pulling off a sock, let alone a coup. But he tried, and now the fun begins. And he’s taking the GOP, Cruz, Hawley and all those other Ivy League fascists with him.
A failed coup attempt is still a coup attempt.
Nice attempt at snatching defeat from the jaws of disaster, though. Superb.

  32. Woolly claims it was nothing more than the cast of Duck Dynasty and WWE touring the Capitol. While leaving out the IEDs and the number of deaths incurred while touring the Capitol. Carry on sir….

  33. Trump: it wasn’t me
Science: pretty sure it was you

The invitation to provide actual evidence of Trump inciting the riot is still open, Emery. Are you having trouble finding it?

Strange that your twisted view of “science” can’t produce anything.

  34. So Trump was carrying a cell phone when he raised the capitol?
Science tells us Trump was on the other side of town speaking at a rally.
Emery, the more you insist that you are that you are telling the truth, the more unhinged you become.
Not sounding like a winner. Reminiscent of your insane blather when the Mueller report turned out to be a dud.

  35. Say Reek?

The manufacturer of the machines your band of reprobates used to steal the election has threatened to sue the My Pillow Guy. He begged them to do it…they didn’t. On Friday, he bought 2 hours of airtime on OANN and laid out a pretry compelling case agaonst Dominion.

Then he asked them to take him to court…crickets. Dominion then threatened to sue OANN…they told them to gfy.

    Crickets…

It would be sweet justice for the reprobates to be smothered with a pillow, don’t Ya think?

ps: Is Fapliar bunking with you up there on the birkie? You two degenerstes whisper lies to each other while plooking? tia Reek!

  36. 👆👆Yes — notable that OAN ran an extensive disclaimer before the broadcast.

If there was any substantial “evidence”, Team Trump wouldn’t have lost 60 of 61 lawsuits. Their only “victory” was to reduce the period that Pennsylvania mail-in ballots could be cured by a couple of days, which only affected a handful of ballots.

The issue of voter fraud has been fully litigated in the courts (the proper venues), often by Trump-appointed judges. This is no longer an open question except for members of the Trump cult, who are pathetically clinging to conspiracy theories.

Once Swiftee and Woolly choose to live in the Cult of Trump, it’s their constant use of false equivalencies that keeps them there. Comparison without context. Rationalization. Trump lies? All politicians lie. Covid? Same as the flu. The insurrection at the Capitol? Same as protests by BLM. Sad really….

    Reality says:

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday scheduled several high-profile contest-of-election lawsuits, including ones brought by attorneys Sidney Powell and Lin Wood, and the Trump campaign, for consideration at its Feb. 19 conference.

According to a case listing, the lawsuits include Sidney Powell’s Michigan case (20-815), the Trump campaign’s Pennsylvania lawsuit (20-845) and Wisconsin lawsuit (20-882), the Pennsylvania lawsuit brought by Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) (20-810), and Lin Wood’s Georgia case (20-799).

You aren’t looking good here, bucko. Looks like yet another episode when you believing that your wishful thinking is “real.”

  38. In his recent Ricochet podcast, Byron York (no fan of Trump) notes nine questions that the DC police force still refuses to answer four weeks after the January 6th Capitol riot.
These include really basic things, like how many capitol police were injured and what are the extent of their injuries, were any of the rioters armed, how many shots were fired (we only know for certain of one shot), etc.
These are really basic things. It is bizarre that after 4 weeks the Capitol police has not released any official information on this.
I suspect that immense political pressure is being brought to bear on the capitol police. Apparently the articles of impeachment specifically mention that an officer Sicknick was beaten to death with a fire extinguisher by the rioters, and it appears that his autopsy does not support this.

  39. Fully litigated? Sixty of them? Really? That’s amazing, because the guy who murdered George Floyd in cold blood on video is still sitting in jail awaiting his trial. Astonishing that courts could hold sixty other trials more quickly than his. Are you certain all those cases were “fully litigated?”

Perhaps you could mention the court file number of a few election fraud cases in which a plaintiff’s witness was called to testify under oath on the witness stand, a witness who was subject to cross-examination, a witness who described the election fraud taking place and explained how and why it mattered.

I don’t believe ANY of the election fraud cases took ANY live testimony; I believe EVERY election fraud case was dismissed on procedural grounds; I believe the merits of the cases have NEVER been fully litigated.

But it’s possible I’m mistaken. I am willing to be educated. Links to the transcripts of the witness testimony in each of those sixty cases would be excellent.

  40. Looks like more insurrectionists loose in DC:
Black Lives Matter protesters and antifa protesters marched through Washington, D.C., on Saturday night threatening to burn down the city and intimidating people while they ate dinner.

“Burn it down,” the protesters could be heard yelling as they marched through D.C. following an afternoon rally labeled the “DC Queer and Trans Black History Month March and Rally.”
    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/blm-antifa-washington-dc-burn-it-down

When, oh when, will our government take these would-be revolutionaries seriously?

  41. It’s highly possible the SCOTUS will shove the biggest swab up Reeks ass since last night.

  42. OAN ran it, Reek. They told Dominion to fuck themselves, and they ran it.

    You mad?

  43. 👆👆I’m still waiting for your investment acumen (“the bubble has popped”) to percolate up through your bullshit.

  44. Starting last February, with retirement looking, I began moving a quarter million out of growth stocks into blue chips. I did not take my thoughts about politics into mind when I did this. My beliefs about what SHOULD happen don’t matter, I was just hedging.
It’s worked out well for me so far.
Poor ol’ Emery. Sold low after the election of Trump in 2016, if you believe him. Bought treasuries since then, made just 1 and a fraction % while I made 15%-20%. Well, sport, they say older, retirement age workers can get a premium of two or three bucks an hour over minimum wage. Keep your options open!

  45. Herr Doktor Professor Strunk, you sound like a person with wide ranging knowledge. I have question about motorcycles.
My “stable,” here in Wisco, consists of a 14 year old Triumph Bonneville. It only weighs 500 lbs., and it is a fun bike to ride, especially after the mods I have made to intake and exhaust. But it is not a motorcycle built for 2-up, and it is not a touring MC. I have a grudge against HD, the rat-ass company called “Harley Davidson” that goes back to the 1980s, when they sold me a sporty with a cracked engine casing. Lousy bastards. Hell is too good for them.
So I want to buy a Beemer touring MC. I like the air cooled R models, but the water cooled K models are, maybe, a better bargain.
I plan on doing some two-up touring, four or five hundred miles a day for a week or so this spring-summer. What advice Can you give me?

  46. 👆👆Small caps have feathered my retirement since this past July.

I see your go-to serial disinformation actor, GatewayPundit, is “permanently suspended for repeated violations of our civic integrity policy,” according to Twitter. Can’t overstate the part Gateway Pundit has played in the “Stolen Election” lie and a million others before.

  47. 🚨🚨Trump followers: At the end of the Super Bowl, look at the scoreboard. The team with the most points won.
