Probably An Academic Question

Watching Mayor Trudeau crying with all the convincing grace of a rented mourner over the casket of George Floyd, at the not-remotely-socially-distanced funeral (violating the Mayor’s own directives, after a week during which he abandoned a fifth of the city to looters, reigned over press conferences that looked like outtakes from “Reno 911”, got caught like a deer in the headlights when asked what his “plan” was, got bailed out by the marginally-less-incompetent State administration, blamed the destruction (accompanied as it was by thick layers of left-sympathetic graffiti) on nearly nonexistent “White Supremacists” (who managed to somehow leave a thick layer of leftist graffiti and leave an amazing number of clearly labeled “black owned” stores more or less unscathed), I have to wonder…

,..is there some level of unintentional comedy below which the voters of the City of Minneapolis won’t go?

  1. This month we recalled 1-in-8 of the number of jobs destroyed last month. Here’s the actual level of employment. It would take some audacity to call this a V.

Here’s a FRED graph, drawn to scale:

    jobs

    ↓➚

God help me if we’re calling that a V.

If it’s safe to mail tax refunds, social security checks, stimulus checks, draft registrations, prescription drugs, passports, your Driver’s License or the actual ID you would use to vote…then it is safe to vote by mail.

MN requires the last 4 digits of my SS number and my MN DL number to verify my ID.

Republicans have won elections via mail and so have Democrats.

The only fraud I know about lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

  3. Not as much of a fraud as the Baby killing dems and their brown shirt antifa.

Need registration to play little league baseball but not to vote.

  4. Hmmm… I heard an annoying buzzing sound that did not add anything to the conversation. I wonder what it was? Hmmm… moving along.

  5. You still can’t explain why you think it is important that it easier vote.
    Can’t do it, can you?
I was very open about my belief that voting should be harder, not easier, and why.

This is a non-sequitor. You can paste anything after the “then” clause, like this:
“If it’s safe to mail tax refunds, social security checks, stimulus checks, draft registrations, prescription drugs, passports, your Driver’s License or the actual ID you would use to vote…then it is safe to buy guns by mail.”
    Or:
“If it’s safe to mail tax refunds, social security checks, stimulus checks, draft registrations, prescription drugs, passports, your Driver’s License or the actual ID you would use to vote…then it is safe to send tigers by mail.”

And you fail on another level: When people want to send something valuable by mail, they pay extra to track it at every step. There are significant problems with tax refunds, SS checks, stimulus checks, prescription drugs, etc, being mishandled, delivered to the wrong address, stolen, or simply getting lost.
You should actually think about what you are posting before you cut-n-paste it. Vote by mail trivializes voting.

  6. Wait – the beginning of a “V” isn’t a full “V”?

Yeah, nobody’s gonna remember that in six months. Not a chance.

  7. ^^ The Constitution says the voter get to choose their politicians — but you and the GOP would rather have the politicians choose their voters.

  8. MBerg:

“This is better than a V, This is a rocket ship.” ~ Donald Trump

Well sure, but that doesn’t fit the V for VICTORY narrative. That’s *a lot* of extrapolation from one month of jobs numbers.

  9. If you have not gone short, you don’t believe what you have written.
If you did go short, your financial acumen has cost you a ton of money.
    Which is it, Emery?

  10. The covid-19 deaths are at the extreme lower end of the estimates made for this point in time by the “experts.” Looks like victory to me.
Plus, we have the bonus of the “experts” beclowning themselves, once again, by their complete and utter failure to demonstrate knowledge about the the thing that they are supposed to be “experts” about.
That’s gonna take a lot of wind out of the sails of the climate panic folks in the medium and long term.

  11. Yes, Emery, I still want to know who will get the blame for all of deaths in nursing homes caused by feckless murdering governors that kept pushing infected people into them. How about all of the additional suicides and domestic violence from the dictatorial lock downs? Your hypocrisy knows no bounds, does it, jack weed?

  12. Richard Fernandez:

The idea that the media inflated or exaggerated the pandemic fears to justify a lockdown for social engineering purposes may seem monstrous to those whose modest jobs and small businesses were lost, but like a spouse walking in on flagrante delicto what else are they to think? “Honey, I can explain why we locked down the jobs and churches and visits to nursing homes but not antifa. It’s not what it looks like!”

    The jig is up.

  13. BH429 — have you given up on “voter fraud” and are now redirecting to another topic.

Some might call that a “thread jack”.

  14. It’s not a V, it’s a W.

The stinking reprobates deliberately (vis Walz’s violation of his own order to eulogize a drug addicted, convicted armed robber), tanked our economy. Millions unemployed.

Drumpf is turning that back 180 degrees.

    That’s not conjecture, that’s a fact.

  15. The stinking reprobates deliberately faked a national health emergency (vis Walz’s violation of his own order to eulogize a drug addicted, convicted armed robber)….

  16. MP, we didn’t need the reprobates to parade their perfidy before a national audience, but the MN synchronized scumbag crew assembled with 500+ of their filthy ilk, in violation of their own fake emergency orders, to pander to looters and rioters.

    We noticed.

  17. It reminds me of the rise of Nazism in Germany. Create after crisis after crisis, which only the party can solve. Just in the last three years, we’ve had the Russian collusion crisis, the impeachment crisis, the covid-19 crisis, and now the civil rights crisis. We are beginning to notice, indeed, that these crises are largely hoaxes, and that the people who ginned them up did so for one purpose — to accrue power over the rest of us.

  18. Nelson Mandela was firmly for voter registration….

Yeah, look at the destruction in MPLS, as if we need trust every voter, come on….

    ————

Yes, Mammuthus; correct. I’d urge people to check out Larry Elder’s twitter, he comments on all of this, this is his forte really.

  19. *video of the crucifixion*

SiTD comment section: ‘I’d like to see what he was doing before the video started.’

  20. Passing fake Jacksons?
Your TDS is not making you any smarter, Emery.

  21. News sometimes sure is limited, maybe There was a tweet that a lot of counterfeit bills came over at International Falls from Canada. Why was this not in the news more if this happened?

  22. We are beginning to notice, indeed, that these crises are largely hoaxes, and that the people who ginned them up did so for one purpose — to accrue power over the rest of us.

Uh-huh and they couldn’t do that if they didn’t have complete power over the media.

    How about:

If you advertise in the Strib, NYT, WAPO, we will not buy your product.

If you advertise on ABC, CBS, NBC news or MSNBC or CNN, we will not buy your product.

If you went to any ivy league school or any uber-liberal college, don’t even dream of sending us your resume.

Nooooooo, that would never work, no use even trying it, ’cause it only works successfully for the left.

  23. Greg, it does NOT work. They call for it and make a lot of noise, but it almost always invariably fails. Look at Chik-fil-a for example.

  24. Woolly the Oracle is clutching his pearls like prayer beads about the alleged passing of a counterfeit $20 bill. 😔

Instead of attempting to defend the continued extra judicial killings of ethnic minorities by security services — I would think a much better argument could be made by pointing out that 97% of violent minority deaths are occurring in their own communities. These protests and by extension the political discourse doesn’t address this phenomena.

But Woolly the Oracle doesn’t make that argument he’s too transfixed by the new shiny object and current chanting points in alt-right wing blogospheres.

Oh, I have no emotional reaction to Floyd’s death at all. Maybe Floyd didn’t know that the bill he passed was fake. I understand that the usual way you pass a bill you know is fake is to do it at a bar on a busy night, not at a convenience store.
The riots don’t even bother me — not my circus, not my monkeys.
I lived in South Minneapolis in my teens and early twenties. That was a long time ago. I have a nephew who lives a little south of the art institute. I visited him a year or two ago and saw that the area had improved quite a bit since the early 80s.
My nephew was arrested (shortly) for breaking the curfew last week.
While I was down in South Minneapolis I stopped by Uncle Hugos book store & chatted with Don Blyly. I was a regular there from the days when they were at 4th & Franklin. The rioters burned Uncle Hugos last week, I doubt if it will open it again.

  26. Actually, should be read… Pardon the lack of formatting. The article sure makes it sound like that this was something ready to happen. If the article is true, why not more oversight? Big problems.

    https://www.startribune.com/third-precinct-served-as-playground-for-renegade-cops/571076562/
Minneapolis’ Third Precinct served as ‘playground’ for renegade cops

Long before former officer Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd’s neck, the Third Precinct in south Minneapolis had a reputation for being home to police officers who played by their own rules.

One officer kicked a handcuffed suspect in the face, leaving his jaw in pieces. Officers beat and pistol-whipped a suspect in a parking lot on suspicion of low-level drug charges. Others harassed residents of a south Minneapolis housing project as they headed to work,

  27. ^^ It take more hours of training to become a licensed barber than it does to become a police officer.

  28. What are you even talking about, Emery? You gotta problem with the hiring practices of the Minneapolis police department, take it up with Jacob Frey or any of the other hard lefties who run Minneapolis, not me. I am 6,000 miles from Minneapolis.

  29. Woolly— as long as you’re reminiscing…

Back in the day I had a good friend who owned Wreck Brothers Auto Body on 38th and Chicago — used to purchase soda at the convenience store (now Cup Foods) across the street from his shop. The neighborhood has changed significantly since then.

  30. The story I heard, back in the 80s, was that any cops who were too gung ho for the suburbs were sent to work in Minneapolis. Could have been true. Don’t know about now. For a while Minneapolis tried to force Minneapolis cops to live in Minneapolis, but they discovered that not many people both wanted to be cops in Minneapolis and live in Minneapolis.
I wouldn’t want to be a cop there. You are dealing with some hard cases, probably all hard cases, and a lack of community support.
If the police lighten their street presence, the gangs will increase their street presence.
What is the #BLM approved way of dealing with a drugged up cigarette thief who isn’t smart enough to leave the scene of his crime?
There is a myth that crime is caused by a lack of social workers. Seems to be question-begging, to me.

  31. Hmong sports festival every 4th of July in St. Paul, Como usually I think… good luck not having the gang units there because one wants to defund the Police. (won’t happen I know, just saying, I was even there when there was some sort of situation).

  32. ^^ If Black lives really mattered to liberals then they’d be the ones speaking out against the “defund the police”. Apparently the lives of blacks killed by gang members and criminals are not the black lives that matter to BLM.

  33. Lots of chatter about various police departments pushing back against city administrators & politicians.
I have yet to read an account sympathetic to the police, but I suppose what is happening is that the police are pushing back against rules imposed by administrators and politicians that they feel puts them at greater hazard.
If you disarmed all of the riot cops (which you could do), I think that very few cops would show up for work.
In any event, I think I have commented on cops versus civil unrest before; American cops don’t have tools to deal with large scale civil unrest. If you want to see it done effectively, look for videos on youtube showing the Russian or Chinese riot police at work.
You could never get away with that in the US, and you should not get away with it in the US.
The police in America are supposed to address criminal problems, not political problems. If the police can’t deal with civil unrest in the US, that is a political failure. And who are the politicians in charge of the cities where the riots are occurring? It ain’t Trump and the GOP.

  34. Melissa A. – Twitter:

We are starting a new movement. It’s #AllBlackLivesMatter not just the ones the left wants to use for political gain.

Ben Carson is right 0.017% of black lives are lost to police…& that’s all the left wants to care about. 94% of black men are murdered by other black men.

    https://twitter.com/TheRightMelissa

  35. MP, pardon me but fuck the police. They have been begging for a retribution for years. No fucks given.

And also, fuck BLM and their stinking leftist handlers. I don’t remember seeing them come to my side when the MN Gang Task Force, Stearns Cty Sheriff and Waite Park PD stopped our club and several others during a charity fund raiser ride at the business end of fully automatic weapons. They didn’t say shit when those lowlife cops dragged our wives off our bikes by their hair.

Fuck the whole bunch. WE will look after OUR own.

  36. Swiftee, I am still trying to make sense out of what happened to Floyd. The media, whose actual job it is to give help, are no help.
So Chauvin had his knee on Floyd’s neck for nine minutes (or eight minutes). When did Floyd die? Was it while Chauvin had his knee on Floyd’s neck, or was it later, in the ambulance?

  37. Later in the ambulance, later, maybe the hospital….

But my own anecdotal evidence on the MPD, I was called for jury duty only a few years ago, yeah, they told us jurors, not to say anything on social media while the trial was ongoing and not mention names… Something like that, so I don’t think this should violate any confidentiality.

Okay, I think can say this much, the charge was a felon had got possession of a gun. He was prohibited from having one.

The police officers in this case were fine imho. One white, one black. They also I believe called in their accompanying team, 2 more but I don’t really remember anything about them.

The suspect was found guilty. All unfortunate.

And how about the metroline?? Are those transit police (I know that exists but it seems they were in their blue uniforms too)? I have rode it and sometimes in the afternoon, all of these mostly very young uniformed officers… Male and female… they were all okay too. They didn’t seem like much on being heavies like the real police officers though. Not sure of their exact status.

  38. MP – re time of death; he was “unresponsive’ when the ambulance picked him up. The paramedics worked on him and realized it was beyond them; the ambulance pulled over and a fire department crew met them and worked on him, too. All told, emergency services worked on him for about an hour before he was pronounced dead. He was likely dead when they first put him on the gurney.
