This Iranian Situation Will Take Intelligence And Critical Thought

None of which will come from our idiot “elite”.

Ms. McGowan – I suggest going to Teheran to work this out personally.

Wearing the outfit in your Twitter profile photo.

Get back to us. If you can.

The assassination of Soleimani does present some gnarly questions: he was a fair target under current international agreements about terrorism – but one could raise questions about whether it was a great idea. Also whether it was an act of war.

On the other hand, we’re treated to the spectacle of watching politicians, deep-staters, media drones and celebs who batted not an eyelash over Obama’s constant, intense campaign of drone, air and special ops “hits”, complaining about Orange LIterally Hitler Man doing it to a target that actually matters, but up to whom The LIghtworker sucked…

…and having to choose, in public, during an election year, with whom to side in public.

Troublling?

Brilliant?

Why choose? It’s both.

  1. There have been a couple of Iraq war veterans speaking about this, including a General, on the news this morning. They pointed out that President Trump has been very measured over the past few years, as Iran has constantly poked the bear, so to speak. The embassy in Iraq is U.S. soil. The question the left wing losers have to address is why was this Iranian commander was in Iraq in the first place? It has been pointed out that he is most likely behind the attacks, allegedly carried out by Iraqis. Further, this criminal has provided ISIS and Taliban fighters with most of the IEDs that have killed hundreds of U.S., Iraqi and Afghan soldiers. I say that this was a surgical operation, designed to minimize collateral casualties. As Mitch points out, the Dems and their media propaganda masters, had no problems with the assassination of Anwar Al-Awlaki, who became the first U.S. citizen to be targeted and killed by a U.S. drone strike without the rights of due process being afforded. President Barack Obama ordered the strike. His son, Abdulrahman al-Awlaki (a 16-year-old U.S. citizen), was killed in a U.S. drone strike two weeks later.
They also forget the Obama/Hillary assault on Libyan, resulting in the death of Mohammar Khadafi, without congressional approval.

  2. Gen. Colin Powell famously warned GWB that if he broke Iraq, he bought it.

If we’re gonna tangle with Iran, I hope they have thought through what they’ll do with it when we bought it.

That being said, the degenerates have our next generations arguing about female penises and male menstrual cycles…what do we have to lose?

  3. Also whether it was an act of war.

I believe that bridge was crossed when the embassy was “invaded”.

    There’s this:
The mullahs now understand- America is not going to off a bunch of random martyrs.

We’re going to kill them and their friends.

Now these dicks got some skin in the game.

And playing off of (the) boss’s comment, I am wondering if this action is symbolically something for the Democrats to think about too. 2020 might be less measured in any number of ways.

  4. The only interest we have in the ME, these days, is to support our ally Israel.
That said, Trump has shown that he is the anti-Carter, hasn’t he? Iran is quite weak these days, I don’t mind the US giving the Mullahs a little push down their death spiral now & then.
What was Soleimani doing in Iraq? Was he the chief “mourner” or “protester” at the embassy attack? I guess attacks on American soil don’t organize themselves! I look forward to reading the glowing obituary in the clueless NY Times, the elite’s primary news source & paper of record.

  5. I know there can be world relationship complications here, but count me glad that the guy who gave the orders to get thousands of innocent people is dead. Especially since his guys had just attacked our enemy in the very city where he was killed.

  6. I rarely watch the news channels, but this AM I turned on CNN & Fox to see how they were reporting the death of Soleimani.
According to both networks, by killing Soleimani, Trump has brought us close to war with Iran or at the very least provoked Iran into retaliating.
    Lol.
There will be no war. Iran’s ability to retaliate is strictly limited. They could set off a few car bombs, I suppose. The mullah’s may finally understand that they, personally, are in the gunsights of American military & intelligence. The mullahs are corrupt cowards, the Iranian people know this, and this is what is behind the unrest in their country.

  7. I have full trust in the President’s best man, Jared Kushner, to make sense of this complicated situation and solve it once and for all.

Yes, it may have been difficult for Trump to comprehend during undergrad, but Jared hasn’t taken these courses, so can offer his expert insight without being beholden to such strange things as historic considerations or theory.

  8. Trump kills one of the nastiest people on the planet, Emery doubts that this was a good thing.
That’s really all you need to know about Emery’s alleged “thought processes.”

  10. Almost 17 years after overthrowing Saddam Hussein in order to transform Iraq into a democratic ally, the US launches an attack on Baghdad’s international airport in order to kill an official of Iraq’s Iranian ally and the
Iraqi head of the Shia militias, with both of whom the US coordinated the offensive against Isis in Iraq.

Regardless of whose side one takes — US, Iran, third party or neutral — this assassination has laid bare the incoherence of US Middle East policy.

There is no doubt that Iran will now retaliate. Will Iraq have to accept being the battleground in a US/Iran war or has the US scored another own goal as Iraq asks it to leave?

  11. I put Swiftee’s 8:13 through a Swedish Chef xlator.
    No moderation.
So, Swiftee, you can see what you have to do to escape Moderation Island.

  12. Donald Trump Tweets:
Nov. 29, 2011: “In order to get elected, Barack Obama will start a war with Iran.”

Oct. 6, 2012: “Now that Obama’s numbers are in a tailspin watch for him to launch a strike in Libya or Iran. He is desperate.”

Oct. 22, 2012: “Don’t let Obama play the Iran card in order to start a war in order to get elected – be careful Republicans!”

  13. BTW, you should take Emery’s prognostications with as much seriousness as you took his prediction that Hillary would win by a landslide in 2016 & that Mueller would find evidence that Trump colluded with Putin to beat Hillary.

  14. Just like his party of liars, crooks and pedophiles, Emery is desperate to stay relevant.

  15. The fact that US forces were able to pinpoint Soleimani’s location with certainty has got to be rattling to the mullah’s. I wonder if we used human intelligence or cell-phone tracking?

  16. Good thing the Nan-mobile hasn’t send those Articles of Impeachment to the Senate yet. Now the House can amend them to add a count of War Crimes for killing an innocent mourner who was peacefully minding his own business watching CNN in the airport lounge.

That’ll put Biden over the top for sure!

  17. Just like his party of liars, crooks and pedophiles, Emery is desperate to stay relevant.

Completely agree. Of course, staying relevant apparently means taking the side of USA’s enemies: so “liars, crooks[,] pedophiles” and traitors. Not to put too fine a point on it.

  18. JD, a question. Would the House have to hold hearings again to add this new count of war crimes? I mean, that sounds like a job for Schiff.

  19. JD commented: “Good thing the Nan-mobile hasn’t send those Articles of Impeachment to the Senate yet.”

Mitch McConnell will say he’s not going to put the president on trial in the Senate during a crisis in the Middle East. 😉

  20. I have it on good authority that Solemani hung himself in his cell. Or was shot trying to escape.

  21. I’m not a Middle East expert and you should discount what I think about it. But I am not getting the warm and fuzzies that there is a coherent well-thought out plan.

  22. So where did W’s and Obama’s “well thought out plans” for Iraq get us?
If a plan or course of action seems reasonable to you, it’s probably the worst thing that could be done under the circumstances. The professional bureaucrats in the government have shown themselves to be wrong, over and over, again and again.

  23. Emery is on the same waveelngth as Biden on taking out Soleimani.
Biden, who is universally considered a foreign policy wonk by the MSM.
Biden, who was wrong about ending the cold war, wrong about way to best reform the former USSR, wrong about the Gulf War (he voted against it), wrong about the Iraq War (he voted for it), and wrong about the surge that kept Iran from taking over Iraq back in 2005.

  24. Hmmm. Did Solemani had info on Memaw Clinton?

Seriously though, first things first; fuck you D_K.

I’m feeling less gaseous than I did while Obmama was bending over for Iran like a bitch, sending them pallets of cash & leaving US Navy sailors high and dry, but I don’t trust Trump’s administration to handle this situation, either. And I dont have faith in our Milirary leadership.

Our non-com military rank and file are as good as any we’ve had, and we have without doubt the baddest ass weapon inventory in the world, but the officer corps are still full of Obama’s cunts, too busy making sure uniformed tranny’s get free tuck and roll jobs to command troops.

I also don’t believe anything this administration says without evidence, any more than I ever will any other.

If it was important to take this guy out, a sniper could have slipped in, blown his brains out from 1000 yds and slipped off without a fuss. If Trump wanted to flex muscle in Iraq to keep Iran honest, he shouldnt have recalled the damn troops.

    This whole thing stinks.

  25. The NY Times is reporting that both the Bush & the Obama administration had plans to kill Soleimani, but chose not to because it would be too risky.
That probably means it was the best thing to do.

I’ve said for years that if a president wants to conduct successful foreign policy, he should hire Joe Biden as an adviser. Ask Biden what he thinks of a situation, what his recommendations are.

And then the president should do the exact opposite of Biden’s advice.

  27. jdm asks: “JD, a question. Would the House have to hold hearings again to add this new count of war crimes? I mean, that sounds like a job for Schiff.”

You’re asking me about the rules? We don’t need no stinking rules! This is Calvinball – there are no rules, we make them up as we go along.

  28. That probably means it was the best thing to do.

The (George) Constanza Rule in real-life. I like it.

  29. Golfdoc commented: “I have it on good authority that Solemani hung himself in his cell. Or was shot trying to escape.”

I wonder if Soleimani though it was pallet full of money flying towards him?

  30. Apologies to anyone who’s made this observation already: Pompeo’s rhetoric about an imminent attack from Iran sounds exactly like the language the Bush administration used in the lead up to the Iraq invasion.

It seems rather odd — there’s very little talk today in conservative media about how you can’t trust deep state intelligence officials.

  31. Look, whether you want to admit it or not, we’ve been in a war with Iran for 40 years now. They’ve killed Americans, and consistently paid other people to kill Americans, they’ve been striking at our military for years, and they’ve been quite happy to tell folks about it.

And for years, we’ve been acting as if their avowed motivations and actions were otherwise. That’s why the Quds force general was quite open about his maneuvers. He knew that he’d been tracked for years (the generals have admitted they had snipers with sights on him before before the upper echelons decided not to take the shot), and no matter what he did, the American’s leadership never had the guts to do to him what he was doing to Americans. He didn’t really bother with spy craft, he even took selfies with the militias in Iraq that had attacked Americans, so he was utterly unconcerned and contemptuous of America’s leadership.

As for what changed, that’s a good question. It could be anything. Trump may have had intelligence of new attacks, as he said. It could have been the attack on the American embassy that pushed him. In a completely cynical frame of mind, I could suggest that he caught wind of a plan to take over the American embassy right before the election to try and oust him. I can think of 10,000 reasons he might have chosen to change the policy of America, and honestly, we’ll never really know why.

All I know is that it was the right thing to do. Soleimani was the public point man in a war being waged that has cost thousands of Americans their lives. At this point, the mullahs have to decide if continuing their efforts as they are is worth putting their own lives on the line, because Trump has demonstrated that there are limits to what he’ll tolerate that are different than his predecessors, and that leadership positions in an openly hostile foreign government aren’t protections.

  32. MP, do you realize you just cited the NY Times as a source of reliable news?

My God man, get a hold of yourself.

  33. Regarding Emery’s comment about Jared Kushner “not having taken the courses”, it turns out he’s a Harvard grad with a degree in government. Now I might agree with Kushner on some things and disagree on others, but with that degree, he’s at least passed some tests and written something halfway coherent about history.

    Just plain stupid, Emery. Just.Plain.Stupid.

Again, regarding this, I’m just glad to see that the war has been brought home to a guy who got thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of innocents killed.

  34. I was not surprised to see the Dem candidates call out Trump for acting “recklessly,” even though that is arm chair quarterbacking.
What surprised me that none of them followed with a warning to Iran against retaliation. Not sure what country they want to lead, but it sure ain’t the USA.

  35. Thank you jdm. I was triggered for a second there. 😉

I’m not surprised the degenerates haven’t called on Iran to watch themselves, MP. I’m surprised jdm’s Onion headline wasn’t from the NYT.

  36. Emery’s first concern is Kushner could be involved – OMG it’s the Jewwwwwws!

Seriously, Em, I’m surprised you Liberals haven’t found a solution to the Jewish problem once and for all; a Final Solution, you might say. Seems to me another National Socialist established a precedent for you. Certainly Ilhan and Rashida are on board. Can’t you guys find some young pretty girl to stand still long enough for Biden to get on message?

  37. jdm, if it’s true that the guy was in U.S. crosshairs in Iraq, directing actions, and they refused to allow someone to pull the trigger or push the button, W and Barack ought to be compelled to visit each Gold Star mother and widow created by their inaction to apologize.

The Japanese and Germans didn’t hesitate to kill U.S. leadership in WWII, and neither did we hesitate to kill Japanese and German leadership at the same time. Just ask Yamamoto, no? So we refused to kill terrorist leadership….why?

  38. The guy appointed to take Soleimani has been a US designated terrorist for quite some time. I imagine that he was not too thrilled at getting a promotion.

  39. The Iranians have a lot of scope for a sophisticated response not least because in the Trump administration they have an adversary that is the least adept in generations. The Iranians could move to further divide the American public on its support for a militarized foreign policy across the Greater Middle East or a new policy of disengagement of military forces from the region. There is a great deal of war weariness among the American public.

Overall, Iran can continue and strengthen its Anaconda-like strategy to apply constant pressure to compel long-term withdrawal of the Americans from the Greater Middle East. The job is half accomplished — stay the course.

The Iranians can further divide the Europeans from the Americans while negotiating sanctions relief and a return to the nuclear agreement and wrong foot American diplomacy.

Iran can divide the Far East oil consumers from American foreign policy in the region.
Iran can further weaken the standing of the Arab autocracies in the Gulf States and Egypt from public opinion in the Muslim world.

Iran can work with Russia on consolidating power in Syria while also strengthening its suzerainty over Iraq and Lebanon.

Lots of creative opportunities — turn it into a game of the shrewd versus the dumb.

  40. Interesting that all this creativity and deep thought goes into how to help the Iranians. America’s enemy.

    Liberals always side against America

  41. em: Lots of creative opportunities — turn it into a game of the shrewd versus the dumb.

Sure, and we can do the same. All your strategies seem to ignore the internal pressure in Iran and Iraq against the Iranian regime. You neglect their internal pressures as the Iranian economy crumbles and the mullahs have to resort to shooting their own people. You ignore the celebrations in Iraq supporting Soleimani’s reaching room temperature.

Right now Iran is struggling. Iran targeted a US base and killed a contractor. The US responded and took out a couple dozen assets and nearly as may SCUD rockets that Iran can’t afford to replace. Iran responded by attacking the US embassy, but Trump trumped that response and took out the top Iranian commanders in Iraq, not just the two blown up but the capture of several others.

And Trump hasn’t even started with attacks on Iranian soil if need be. Iran has 3 major refineries and about 8 minor ones. Take out their refineries and their economy shuts down. They had massive protests over raising prices from $0.10/gal, how will they handle a complete lack of fuel? All from just one salvo of cruise missiles.

You forget a critical fact: Trump is not an internationalist like Obama. He looks out for Americans first, all others as need be. Iran might be able to stop Persian Gulf shipping for a while, but the US is energy self sufficient these days. Sure, Europe will crap its pants, but if your goal isn’t to suck up to a bunch of European parasites like Obama did you have a lot more degrees of freedom in direct action and “unconventional strategies” on the US side as well.

  42. ^^ First, the mullahs in Tehran will neither be so bold or so foolish as to directly confront the US or Israel. To do so would be a provocation which would likely invite the gravest retaliation, which likely would threaten the ability of the Islamic Republic to stay in power, given rising dissatisfaction in Iran and the region with it and its proxies. The recent protests in Iran and Lebanon illustrate the mullahs’ somewhat tenuous hold on power.

What Iran likely will do is split off the US from its regional and NATO allies. An successful attack on oil facilities in KSA or oil shipping/infrastructure in the Strait of Hormuz would disrupt the world economy, but Trump likely couldn’t get a level of support from the US public (especially in an election year and given his past promises to disentangle the US from the region) to credibly respond. An Iranian inspired/supported attack on the US embassy is different than taking a shot at MBS and the Saudi royal family. The world is awash in oil, and Europe and Japan would feel the disruption far more than the US.

So if Iran attacks KSA, the US likely only responds half- heartedly. Iran can threaten the UAE (either through attacking tankers or the ADCOP pipeline between Habshan and Fujairah), and the UAE will likely cave. The UAE economy is weakening, their important real estate sector is suffering already, and Dubai is counting on Expo 2020 to turn things around. If the region turns into a war zone, it’s likely that tourism will suffer. Turkey is a NATO member in name only, and if Iran pushes common cause in crushing the Kurds, Iran doesn’t have to work hard to peel Turkey further away from the US. Iraq likely goes further toward Iran (public
outrage over sovereignty issues and the killing of the Shiite militia leaders with Soleimani) , and may ask the US to withdraw its forces from the country.

Allies like the UK, Germany, France and Japan weren’t consulted on the Soleimani strike, and were already irritated by the earlier American unilateral withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear monitoring deal. These countries get far more of their oil from the region, so they won’t want to push the Iranians any harder.

The US should prepare for Iranian retaliation, I think it’s unlikely that any meaningful preparation can be done in concert with others. Trump took the decision to escalate matters with Iran alone, and the US will likely have to navigate the consequences alone as well.

  43. President Trump’s super-power is getting his enemies angry enough to rip off their masks so everyone can see the ugliness beneath.

If killing the general directing the troops that attacked our embassy is enough for France, Germany and Japan to declare they are no longer our friends and don’t want our help anymore, then I guess we’ll simply have to honor their wishes, pack up our military forces, and go home leaving them to defend themselves against threats from Russia and China. Downside, we lose some cushy duty stations. Upside, we’ll no longer be obligated to spend billions defending our allies which frees up money to build The Wall with Mexico. Oh no, don’t throw us into that briar patch, Br’er Mullah!

From your lips to God’s ears, Emery.

  44. ^^ Whether one agrees with the Trump administration’s assassination of Soleimani, the statements and explanations by his administration reek of confusion with unclear/contradictory messages and rationales. It is a warning that decision/strategy were incompetent and haphazard.

“We committed an act of war to stop a war.” ~ Trump

”Americans are safer now, but evacuate Iraq immediately, you’re not safe.” ~ Pompeo

“We’re sending more troops.” ~ Esper

    “We’re de-escalating.” ~ Pompeo

Trump doesn’t get it and never will.

Obama clearly understood that there would be no lasting peace in the Middle East unless the US and Iran reached and kept a nuclear containment deal then built up a more comprehensive working relationship off that starting point. Trump threw the six nation nuclear containment deal in the trash for nothing gained beyond a day’s worth of tweets to his supporters and a steady loss of security for America and America’s allies.

  45. Hey, nerdbert, while the little weasel drones on looking for attention, I just wanted to compliment you on your comments here. Very interesting.
