  15. My Liberal colleagues insist impeachment is essential. I keep asking “So when does Hillary move in?” They look at me blankly.

    “Because that’s the point, right? Trump stole the election, throw him out, put Hillary in? So when does that happen? Wait, what . . . it doesn’t happen? Pence takes over? Then what’s the point?”

    So far, all the answers basically boil down to “butt-hurt,” which isn’t specifically mentioned in the Constitution as a reason for impeachment but it’s probably covered by an emanation of the penumbra of reasons.

    Yes, Emery, because everyone knows that in Washington, nobody ever goes after you for misstating facts when talking with Congress or investigators. Just ask Martha Stewart, Michael Flynn, or Scooter Libby.

    Besides, what we really know is this; there is zero admissible evidence that implicates President Trump in a crime. However, we have a lot of video pointing out that the majority party has refused to allow cross examination, has admitted inadmissible evidence, has falsified evidence, has refused to allow open discovery, and a lot more.

    Ask Mike Nifong what happens (or ought to happen) to “prosecutors” who pull that kind of stunt. Adam Schiff belongs in jail.

  21. Absent some written evidence, all of it depends on what was in Trump’s mind, which no one knows. Even if Trump told Pompeo “I am doing this so the Ukes will investigate Biden on my behalf” that would only be what Trump told Pompeo, it wouldn’t mean that it was the truth.
    This is why it was stupid to start this thing. It never had a chance of getting bipartisan support. You never had, as you had in the Clinton impeachment, a president coaching a witness to lie to investigators.
    There was never any reason to do this at all, other than to feed the rabid base of the Dems.

I ran across an interesting juxtaposition in stories from a news aggregator this AM: a story with the headline that several hundred alumni of the Obama administration had “stabbed Biden in the back” by signing a document endorsing Warren, and below it a story about Warren’s poll numbers being in freefall behind Biden and Sanders.
    Maybe that is why they are obsessed with Trump’s solid GOP support. As much as Republicans complain about Trump, no serious opposition has arisen from the #nevertrumpers or even the more doctrinaire conservatives. Trump will face no primary opponent.

    Also noticed an article that fat George Comway, Kellyanne Conway’s never Trumper husband, who is a never Trumper because Trump wouldn’t give him a cushy gubmint job, Steve Schmidt, John McCain’s gofer, John Weaver and Rick Wilson, are forming a super PAC of conservatives to thwart Trump’s re-election. George has declared himself a “cheer leader” for the group, whatever the hell that is. IMO he’s trying to be relevant. I’m surprised that Kellyanne hasn’t dumped him yet, but then, I’m sure that she’s smart enough to know that is the outcome that the left wing haters drool over.

  25. Bosshoss, I think those guys think there is bank to be made from the USCC types who hate Trump because of his love of tariffs and because he champions American workers over illegals. It wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of anti-Trump conservatives are bankrolled by anti-Trump Democrats, specifically Pierre Omidyar (Omidyar is known to be bankrolling Bill Kristol). Schmidt, Weaver, and Wilson are members of that weird club of political consultants who can’t seem to win an election campaign.
    Rick Wilson thinks you can elect a Republican president without the votes of Trump supporters. Rick Wilson is an idiot.

For all of his faults, I commend Collin Peterson for having the stones to vote “NO” on the clown court’s politically biased and bull crap impeachment. In addition, Jared Golden and Jeff Van Drew, who is becoming a Republican due to the crap the Dems are pulling and Tulsi Gabbard voted present, which is essentially a NO vote, as well Kinda puts a dent in your narrative, doesn’t it?

    Conservatives will someday face the horrible truth that the Republican Party fought so hard to justify and excuse an amoral and self-serving president, and what he gave them in return was bigger government and erosion of the principles and values they once claimed to cherish.

Again, if a real prosecutor tried to pull the stunts Adam Schiff-head did in Congress, he would rightly be put in jail. Hopefully the Senate will censure him for those idiot games he’s been playing.

    Article 1. Trump asked the Ukraine to investigate corruption and the possibility of Ukrainian interference in the 2016 US election. As the chief law enforcement officer for the nation, that sounds like his job.

    Article 2. The Executive Branch obstructed the activities of the Legislative Branch. In a constitutional republic with a separation of powers, that also sounds like his job.

    I suspect they’re not actually pissed the President is doing his job. I suspect they’re mostly pissed that Hillary isn’t doing it.

  30. The Constitution says: The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two-thirds of the Members present.

    If the Chief Justice is presiding, how does Mitch McConnell rig the game? Once the Chief Justice takes the gavel, it would seem that his rulings would control the flow of events. He is in charge or he is not.

    If I were the principal House manager, I would move to the Chief Justice to call Secretary of State Pompeo to testify because he is a constitutional officer confirmed by the Senate and was duly called by House subpoena to testify. Other officials may have some exemption for “advice” rendered under “executive privilege,” but not as to testifying as to facts.

    So McConnell has several issues to worry about: some moderate Republican senators may have one or both eyes on history’s galleries and a Chief Justice who might be interested in rendering a just proceeding with history looking over his shoulder.

    How will the smallest man ever to hold the large job of Senate majority leader shrink from his responsibilities this time? Run, hamster, run.

  31. The concern troll gambit was amusing. Sounds like a later stage coping mechanism to the realization that impeachment is not going anywhere.

    Say, isn’t it true that each failed impeachment attempt allows the president in question to run for an extra term beyond that of the proscribed two? I thought I heard rumors that impeachment was going to be resuscitated, like a zombie, if Trump is re-elected in 2020. He may never leave office.

  33. House managers could potentially use evidence at the Senate trial (Art. II of the impeachment charges refers to obstruction of Mueller), Trump can be impeached again, and the House has continuing oversight obligations independent of impeachment.

    Trump has finally truly earned something with his own effort.

    But be careful, Emery, for Trump to be charged with obstructing Mueller, Mueller had to have been obstructed – but he wasn’t, at least by Trump.

    As for the charge of obstruction of Congress, exercising every legal option open to one is only obstruction once a COURT says it is.
    You have to wait for the courts to rule before leveling that charge, otherwise holding up an interrogation by demanding a lawyer to be present – could be construed as obstruction of justice.

  35. According to McConnell, Pelosi can’t turn over the impeachment to the Senate within a year of an election, we need to allow the voters decide in November of 2020 when the Senate gets it.

  36. The House holds a very weak hand. Everyone (other than Emery and the insane fringe of the Democrat Party) knows this.
    The Mueller report is only mentioned in a footnote to article 2 that was added by the New York times Article 2 does not reference Mueller. The footnote in its entirety reads:
    The Democrats decided against charging Mr. Trump with obstruction of justice stemming from the Russia investigation, keeping the articles tied strictly to the Ukraine matter to avoid complicating the debate. Although the special counsel Robert S. Mueller III outlined 10 actions that he considered possible acts of obstruction, he did not say one way or the other whether he would have filed charges if Mr. Trump were not the president, leaving it to lawmakers to decide.
    Emery is in dreamland, again.
