Two mass shootings over the weekend.

Senate Majority Leader Gazelka had an excellent response:

As does Representative Munson.

Let us, indeed, think about the “why”:

Speaking of “why” – law enforcement will be looking for patterns. And while we’re on the subject:

As a friend asks – “do they make these in a lab?” “Copycat killer” has a whole new meaning.

By the way; over the weekend – a “progressive” from the invincibly ignorant set bellowed (rhetorically) at me “askiing” if I’d renounce “white supremacy” in the wake of El Paso.

It was a groaningly stupid and insulting thing to say – I did mention he was from the invincibly ignorant crowd, right?

I haven’t told him “This is the appropriate response to ‘white supremacists’ with firearms on shootings sprees“.

And, for that matter, a good guy with a gun did in fact help out in El Paso.

Berg’s 18th Law is still in effect. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: In related news, Neil DeGrasse Tyson will never do lunch in Berkeley again:

Indeed.

  1. Let’s assume for sake argument that the atheists are correct, there is no God and humans are nothing more than biology gone wild and life is meaningless.

If that is the case, would it not be a great idea to spread the belief that a Great God in the Sky is watching your every move and will burn you in hell if you do something terribly wrong?

Keep in mind that half the people on earth have IQ’s under 100, half are less emotionally mature than the other half, and a good portion are just plain nuts.

So even if one does not believe, why would any mature, responsible person challenge that belief?

  2. I saw something similar to the response from Sen Gazelka yesterday as well.

In response to a CNN reporter’s tweet:
I haven’t unpacked my suitcase from just covering the last mass shooting and there is already another one. What is happening in this country??

    Jeremy Boreing responded:
An erosion of the social fabric, collapse of the family, a cavalier rejection of historic wisdom and morality, social-media-induced isolation and puritanical outrage culture, a self-righteous greed-fueled exploitative media, mocking of God, and revisionist history.

  3. I don’t know, but I’d guess there’s a lot of white supremacist ideology in Poland / Italy / and Slovakia too. But very few mass shootings. They seem to be missing some crucial element. Whatever can it be.

  4. Leftist politicians, agitators and their propaganda arms (CNN, NBC, CBS, PBS & etc.) have been attacking Caucasian Americans for the last 20 years, but the level of hatred in their rhetoric has really crested in the last 10.

But no where has this caused more harm than with our children. Leftist teachers in public schools relentlessly hammer their racism, along with their sexual and biological insanity into Caucasian boys for 12 years.

I’ve also seen some chatter about selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors being involved. I don’t know anything about them, but I do know public schools rely on mood altering drugs to keep kids, especially boys, compliant.

Then leftist reprobates blanket social media and news with that same, debilitating culture of hate and self-loathing.

These young guys are the product of that pogrom; they’re completely disconnected from reality… what the hell did they think would happen? As the most Rev Jeremiah Wright would have said, the chickens have come home to roost.

  5. They seem to be missing some crucial element.

Hmm. Could it be a national media obsessively denouncing Polish / Italian / and Slovak national traditions and culture as an anathema that must be wiped clean?

Could it be a lack of a pop culture that glorifies the invasion of their countries by armies of low IQ peasants from 3rd world shitholes, and local government functionaries that openly facilitate that invasion, or maybe they don’t have a political party that has adopted a platform of “get ready to become extinct”?

    It’s a mystery.

  6. While what he said is true 100% there is also a massive mental health component here. Not only are all these shooters/cold blooded murdering psychopaths not regular church going Christians (Probably all of them in all honesty) but again most if not all of these shooters had massive red flags either on social media or interacting with the public that should have put them in a mental institution before it got to this.

  7. I’m not a lay gun owner squish. I have…:

    – a good size collection of this and that
    – an FFL
    – made adult money as a gunsmith

Bass Pro Shops / Cabelas etc, to say ‘retail’, sales of assault weapons needs to go really. That’s what would ‘solve’, these lowest common denominator incels need a higher hurdle to get over before getting their hands on these. I’m amenable to that legislatively, and all 2A guys ought to be as a matter of stewardship.

  8. Oh and what Neil De Grasse Tyson is 100% true, Im updating it as my Facebook status as my only comment on the tragedies.

  9. John K, you have set foot on the slippery slope. You are like the person who didn’t object when they came for the shopkeepers because you’re not a shopkeeper. You’re hoping to be guillotined last.

If they ban private ownership of all ARs and AK/SKS rifles, it won’t be only the stupid people whose guns they take. They’ll also come for yours.

Well, okay, so you still have your Glock, right? No, because that’ll be the next thing some idiot uses to shoot up a school. And they won’t only take Glocks from the stupid people. They’ll also come for yours.

And then some idiot will use a pump shotgun, and they’ll come for yours. And some idiot will use a .44 magnum revolver and they’ll ban all revolvers. And some idiot will use a kitchen knife to stab people and you’ll be explaining to us why nobody really needs a pointy knife, certainly not more than one per month, and no longer than two inches.

Sounds as if I’m hyperventilating, making a mountain of a molehill, throwing out hysterical and remote contingencies. Except . . . each of these already happened, in England, and Australia and other countries where the government found it necessary to disarm the civilian population for their own good, but assumed no duty to protect the now-defenseless citizens.

It’s not the weapon. Every police station is filled with weapons – none of them go on mass shooting sprees. Every NRA convention, every rifle range, every clay pigeon range where the high school trap shooting team practices, is filled with weapons. None of them go on mass shooting sprees.

It’s not the weapons. It’s the idiots. We don’t need gun control. We need idiot control.

  10. ^ I did not say ‘ban’. I said Bass Pro Shops / Cabelas etc, to say ‘retail’, sales of assault weapons needs to go really. That’s what would ‘solve’, these lowest common denominator incels need a higher hurdle to get over before getting their hands on these. There’s a difference.

There needs to be a hurdle placed before the sale of an AR, and its needs to be high enough to screen the maladjusted aspie / incels from getting them, and the aficionado community would be right to embrace that.

No worries though, that’s not whats going to happen. In the next 5 years or so we’ll get universal background check and maybe perhaps a soft AWB ban like the last one, and that will be it, and not much will change.

  11. Believing in the right to bear arms has cultural roots for sure, but the obsession with protecting from regulation the military grade arms that any rational person would regulate is driven by industry economic incentives to protect a market place.

  12. I’m old enough to remember when the thing the gun grabbers wanted to ban was the “speed loader”, a little device that would hold 5-6 rounds of your favorite caliber revolver ammunition to allow you to reload in 5-10 seconds instead of a minute. So we know from experience that the MO of the gun grabbers is “ban whatever seems most dangerous to us at the time.”

Give them an inch, they will take a mile, as residents of California, New York, and like-mindless states know all too well.

As I noted elsewhere, both shooters here passed a background check, had no clear history of mental illness, and were using civilian grade weapons. There’s not a lot we can do, legally, and that wouldn’t have far worse consequences at some point in the future.

  13. John K., I’m not following you. If the retail stores stop selling guns to Idiots, where will Good People get them? Oh, you mean gun stores will only sell to Good People, not to Idiots? And how will gun stores know the difference?

The first time a gun store refuses to sell to a Black man on the grounds they suspect him of being an Idiot, or a White Trans woman, or a Muslim, what result?

Ah, but maybe we can make it easier. Only people who have been granted permission by the government can own arms which they might use to resist the government. And the granting of permission is entirely discretionary with the government. Tell me, John, are you in the class of elites who will be granted a permit? Am I?

    For how long?

  14. “but the obsession with protecting from regulation the military grade arms that any rational person would regulate . . .”
This is where you substitute the word “I” for “any rational person.”
The second amendment refers to the people of the country as a “militia.” How can you follow the 2nd amendment and deny the people the right to form a militia?

  15. Now that I think on it, John K. does have a point. Several recent mass shooters have been involuntarily celibate because girls wouldn’t give them the time of day, much less the time of their lives.

Plainly, what’s needed is girl control. Girls should be required to date dweebs, geeks, dorks and losers, for the good of society. Set up a date quota and a rotation system administered by Planned Parenthood, the same people who hand out free condoms and birth control pills and abortions.

If it saves even one life . . . .

  16. …‘retail’, sales of assault weapons needs to go really.

So, what does that mean? Peer-to-peer, by appointment only? Comment makes zero sense unless you’re just advocating a ban, but more importantly, it belies an ignorance I find shocking in someone with an FFL.

These twisted kids are influenced by the media. They choose AR/AK platforms because that’s what they see on the news and in the movies; they truly know not what they do. An informed maniac, intent on causing the maximum carnage in a crowded, enclosed space would choose a shotgun. Shall we next be forced to turn in grandpa’s Browning A5 or Remington 1100?

These killings are awful; they’re indicative of a collapsing society. But disarming law abiding citizens will not stop them. They’ll just go to the next most popular means of destruction; explosives or motor vehicles.

Lastly, I’ll remind everyone (shouldn’t have to, but here we are), that the real purpose of the 2nd amendment is to give free people the means to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. Watch the events in Hong Kong for further instruction. In order to make that a realistic prospect, we need to be at least marginally as well armed as agents of the government.

Leftist reprobates like to ask “how many kids need to get shot before you give up your guns?” The answer, to any free person, is “I don’t measure my God given rights by your theatrical narratives.”

  17. Woolly wrote: “The second amendment refers to the people of the country as a “militia.” How can you follow the 2nd amendment and deny the people the right to form a militia?”

Good question. Because without government infringing on individual rights you have a far more dangerous and less prosperous society.

  18. Neil DeGrass Tyson has just begun his awakening. Id love to hear his opinion on transgendered individuals to see if his transformation to the right is complete. As Ben Shaperio so put it, “Facts don’t care about your feelings.”

  19. Btw: have you checked out the stock market lately — to see how easy trade wars are to win?

  20. Because without government infringing on individual rights you have a far more dangerous and less prosperous society.

D_K coming out as a fan of Generalissimo Pinochet? Too late. Get in the helicopter.

  21. The US is getting down to the “sugar” and leaving the substance of “high” behind.

Interest rates are near zero. How about people pay borrowers to borrow? A nice negative fixed rate would be awesome.

  22. “Red flag laws” will depend on psychologists to determine your fitness to own a weapon after your spurned wife turns you in to the cops…you know, the same people who declared homosexuality perfectly normal and that aside from the irrefutable fact that most homosexuals have a history of being abused as children, homosexuals make super duper parents.

These are the folks who pen scholarly papers concluding corporal punishment of children is akin to a war crime, an 11 year old boy is perfectly capable of deciding he’s really a fairy princess and that mutilating one’s genitals is the only rational path for people who think human biology ripped them off.

    Nah.

Of course this does not answer my question at all. What other rights are you willing to infringe on to create safer and more prosperous society? Freedom of religion? Freedom of speech? Freedom of association? Freedom to be secure in your property?

  24. It’s no accident that “red flag laws” deny due process. Look at the positions of the Left these days: we must get rid of the presumption of innocence in the name of greater public safety. We must get rid of freedom of speech in the name of greater public safety. We must disregard due process in the name of greater public safety.
Presumption of innocence, freedom of speech, and and due process are all inventions of the Age of Enlightenment. What do the people who want to get rid of these call themselves? Progressives!

  25. MP wondered “What other rights are you willing to infringe on to create safer and more prosperous society?”

Whatever it takes, MP. If only one life is saved.

  26. On a perhaps slightly more, or less, charitable note regarding red flag laws, due process, and the ability of mental health practicioners to do their jobs, some of my in-laws are/were bipolar, and it always seemed like I knew when they were going to go manic before their caregivers did. OK, to be fair, I only saw one side of the conversation, but it was odd that I at least thought I could spot it a mile away, and nobody ever bothered to bump up his lithium.

Perhaps we need to revisit how mental health is done. Perhaps part of the issue was a visit every few months, whereas mania can develop in weeks or less, and quite frankly bipolar sufferers often love the feeling until it gets them out of hand. Whatever it is, it is worth noting that the best practicioners seem to say that predicting violent episodes is difficult to impossible, and that ought to temper our enthusiasm for red flag laws.

  27. “Look at the positions of the Left these days…”

You left out “We must invalidate the Electoral College to save our Democracy from those ignorant hillbillies in fly over country.”

  28. Just checked in with our friends at the Minnpost. They have it all figured out…it’s those damned wipepil, at their Devilry again.

They want to get “serious”. Question is, if 24/7 demonization hasn’t done the trick over the last 10 years, just what does serious mean?

Strap yourselves in for a shallow dive into the leftist mind:

“If it’s true that right-wing attacks increase along with immigration, you could argue that ending immigration might reduce such violence – except that you’d be blaming the victims, and doing nothing to protect people inside the country.

    Yes friends, that’s verbatim.

    https://www.minnpost.com/foreign-concept/2019/08/its-time-to-get-serious-about-white-nationalist-terrorism/

  29. In retrospect Sandy Hook marked the end of the US gun control debate. Once America decided killing children was bearable, it was over.

  30. “Once America decided killing children was bearable, it was over.”

There’s a lot of truth in that, canoe head. But that decision was made in 1973, by a gaggle of your personal mentors and heroes.

No question; it greased the skids

You know what? I think you guys are onto something. Why are mass shooters involuntarily celibate? Because American girls are convinced they’re too good for a nice, quiet boy, they want Bad Boyz for fun and taxpayer funded abortions to deal with the consequences. What does America have that Poland, Slovokia and Italy don’t have? Girls who are convinced they’re too good for a nice, quiet boy but instead want Bad Boyz for fun and taxpayer funded abortions to deal with the consequences.

We don’t need to ban guns. We need to ban feminism.

  32. I don’t know if this has any interest. It is directly related to those pictures above. They reminded me of a something I saw on the Twitter feed of Thomas Wictor. He’s an interesting character (both words are of equal importance) who was suspended from (aka kicked off of) Twitter.

Those boys seem to exhibit a psychological condition called “The Flat Affect”. The condition is defined here at Psych Central:
Flat affect is having a lack of emotional expression. It is a symptom typically observed in people with schizophrenia, autism, depression or traumatic brain injury. A person with flat affect may appear unresponsive to the world around them.

The absolute best example of the flat affect (note, at the time this was originally written) is You-tube shooter, Nasim Aghdam. And then, the day before yesterday,
    Dimitrios Pagourtzis
    , shows up as another.

It is interesting how well these all fit into that description of the “quiet person who seemed nice” description.

Interestingly, Wictor’s still writing about this.

  33. Reading the link about the “good guy with a gun” linked in this instance, I was almost surprised that he wasn’t shot by police. A black guy, brandishing a gun, in the midst of a bunch of crying kids…what could go wrong?

  34. “Emery on August 5, 2019 at 5:37 pm said:

A sign of a trivial thinker: wasn’t it 1973 when liberals decided that killing children was not incidental, but the essential part of securing constitutional rights?
Your current source of talking points isn’t what you’s call “bright”, Emery.

  35. Once again, Emery provides us with an valuable demonstration. The vocabulary word for today: vacuity.

  36. The thing in common with these shootings, when they are not Islamic, is young, incel misanthrope types lashing out at the world. These guys almost universally get their ARs at the big retail gun counters at Cabelas / Bass Pro / Gander Mountain because the instacheck is not a meaningful hurdle / barrier to acquisition. It needs to be… needs to be more difficult just to function as a proper sorting mechanism….and it can be while also being harmonious with 2A. There are numerous small mechanisms that could be implemented that, just by being present as an interpersonal hurdle and work, would probably eliminate the potentiality of mayham from these guys by diverting them away from getting an ‘assault weapon’ at retail. And they would be harmonious with 2A because Scalia obviously left room for some regulation in Heller.

A licensing regime with a training cert for an AR would probably work… and be constitutional. In my minds eye though I see it as more of the way the CMP interacted with gun clubs when they last surplused a bunch of M1 Garands in the 90s.

Whatevs though…. this is not the vision of either the gun guys or the anti-gunners…. its not going to be the way this plays out. We’ll get a universal background check law at some point in the next 10 years, and it wont have any great effect because…. these guys are already checked.

  37. With NW, I’m very impressed by the police response in both of these atrocities. As he notes, they managed to differentiate between helpers and threats very well, and they rushed in knowing that if the shooter wasn’t average, they’d have lead flying at them. Thankfully the shooters were pretty much average and folded under opposition like other bullies.

Emery: maybe look in the mirror when you write about people reduced to trading insults? Just a suggestion.

Im just here to read the comments at this point. This is more entertaining than a lot of sporting events I go to.

  40. JK, the problem with your plan is it attacks the symptom and ignores the disease…Its the same plan the reprobate left is following.

The guy who shot up Las Vegas last year didn’t buy his arsenal at Cabellas. They were all high end rifles purchased from shops that deal in them.

I’m really bummed I have to say this to this audience, but here we are: it’s not the guns, it’s the mental illness.

These are acts of sheer madness. The leftists know it, they just don’t want to confront it because it distracts from their goal. Like everything else they are involved with, they couldn’t give a shit about the lives taken.

Our kids are messed up. And it’s up to us to do something about that. The leftists will fight against us every step because their agendas are largely responsible for the shithouse condition of American family life and society.

So no. We’re not gonna go with a CMP plan for AR rifles, because it’s a waste of time.

  41. Dunning_Kruger displays all the signs of advanced vacutiy. He’s the perfect vessel for leftist claptrap; there’s plenty of room in his empty head, and he won’t spend a microsecond considering the illogic of it before he spews forth.
