I’m starting to think merely ignoring the mainstream media isn’t enough.

Mr. Schieffer evidently hasn’t toured Detroit, Oakland, Kansas City, New Orleans, New York, the South and West sides of Chicago, North Minneapolis or even looked out his DC window lately, because even Herr Dr. Goebbels would be hard pressed to ignore the devistation LBJ’s “War on Poverty” has laid on America’s doorstep.

In order to do my bit to stave off global warm…, er, ah, climate cha… er, ah, extreme weather events, I stopped taking the Strib which is produced and delivered via deforestation and fossil fuel consumption. So the Narrative Coordinators propagan…er, ah, story, will never see my door step.
Tom Brokaw’s book “The Greatest Generation” gave me a clue as to how the old heads in our Dominant Media Culture feel about Republicans with a vignette about Claude Pepper – who never met a Social Security opponent he couldn’t third rail – who in 1995, for the first time in Pepper’s long career in the House of Representatives, became part of the Minority. Brokaw retailed a charming story (in his telling) of how Pepper compared the new Majority Republicans to the same people he fought against in Europe. Yes – a sitting Member of Congress compared his opponents to people who systematically murdered 6 Million Jews and Millions of others. Tom Brokaw didn’t chide Pepper for conflating Republicans and Nazis, but instead told the story of the incident as how passionate The Greatest Generation felt about Minority rights. (Oh, and no mention of how in the previous 40 years of Democratic Majority, Republicans were locked out of hearings, not allowed to bring bills to the floor and had to fight to get tee times at Congressional Country Club.)
Funny that Tommy boy fails to acknowledge that those same Democrat moonbats made every effort to keep the military segregated and discredit the successes of the Tuskegee Airmen, initially flying patched together, worn out planes then flying P-51C (not Ds as the movies portray) and the 761st Tank Battalion of Patton’s Third Army. He also fails to make the comparisons between the Third Reich and the Democrat party.

This is along the lines of a philosophical debate I have had more than once with one of my idealistic *stick my fingers in my ears and not even try to contemplate your not-rigidly-ideological-not-quite-libertarian point of view* libertarian friends. I know one of the groundwork principles of conservatism/libertarianism is “the less law, the better” but sometimes I feel we need to pass laws that specifically forbid things like Obamacare, gun restrictions, speech restrictions (including campaign finance “reform”), term limits, etc. My friend said “it’s the stupid voters’ (collective) fault that we have the whole problem of Obama.” My response was “When you have an opposing force who is INTENT on creating an uneducated and dependency addled voting public so that they CAN move their agenda (which you are opposed to) into legislation and law and policy, what else are you supposed to do? Sit back and let your “the less law, the better” ideals allow them to make more laws of the kind we specifically don’t want? Then why bother even caring about anything political at all? Just tend to your bread and circuses and let them destroy the country while you sit there happy in the knowledge that you are standing for less law while the freedom and liberty you so crave is removed from us at an ever increasing rate.”
Thinking back to Mitch’s response on FB to Gary Miller’s question “Please explain to me how you can call yourself conservative and then go support Romney”, Mitch said “Standing on principle doesn’t do a whole lot when we are reduced to standing in a bread line.” My friend responded “No, that’s when it is the most important to stand on your principles. If you don’t, then you have nothing.”
Another debate we had regarding 3rd party candidates: I said if Ralph Nader’s 3 million voters in 2000 would have voted for Gore, he likely would have won and we likely wouldn’t have gone into Iraq or Afghanistan under Gore. Are those who voted for Nader because Gore was too much of a warhawk for their tastes happy that their collective vote entered us into the decade long, 1.5 trillion dollar “unconstitutional” middle eastern conflict we are still in? He refused to consider not voting your conscience to prevent “perfect is the enemy of good enough”
I CAN see his side, and I’m honestly torn.

I can accept someone “falling for anything” on their own dime, but if it creates significant cost for everyone (yes, even “the poor” and “the children”).

Speaking of climate astrology, Paul Douglas in today’s Strib said something along the line of- “don’t think these blow zero nights coming up next week do anything to refute the fact that the atmosphere is warming.” Right, Paul, but don’t think that a few years of warming does anything to refute the fact that, in as far specific temp. records go, we don’t know what happened the other 4 billion years. Specific temp records go back only about 150 years (2012 the hottest!). Hmm… 150 out of 4 billion…. So in other words, by using his own standard of “logic”, Mr. low information scientist ends up refuting himself.
