Everything You Need To Know About Gun Control, You Can Learn From Michael Bloomberg

Mayor Bloomberg of New York took time off from his busy schedule of banning Big Gulps and not restoring power to the Rockaways to give us an object lesson in what gun control is and how it works.

1) Start with an illogical premise:

With all the carnage from gun violence in our country, it’s still almost impossible to believe that a mass shooting in a kindergarten class could happen. It has come to that. Not even kindergarteners learning their A,B,Cs are safe.

What is the “it” that’s “come to that?”  Some mammoth conspiracy to kill children that started with senior high kids in Columbine and has been working its way down, neglected by society?

No.  “It” – the fact that our most vulnerable are, well, our most vulnerable – has always been the case.  It’s why society – the decent among us, anyway – endeavor to protect them.

We’ll come back to that.

2) A self-righteous demand for “action”…

For every day we wait, 34 more people are murdered with guns. Today, many of them were five-year olds…Calling for ‘meaningful action’ is not enough. We need immediate action. We have heard all the rhetoric before.

And of those 34 people murdered (and you want to check his numbers) how many were killed by people with no legal right to own a gun – by criminals, parolees for violent crimes, and the insane?  How many victims were in places like Chicago and Washington DC, where the law-abiding citizens already needs authorization from the Supreme Court to own a firearm?  How many were kiled as a direct or indirect result of the War on Drugs, which has killed more people than Vietnam and Korea and which the Obama Administration is going to carry on in spite of the wishes of several states’ electorates?

I’ll wait on that answer – no doubt in vain.

3) …that has already failed miserably.

What we have not seen is leadership – not from the White House and not from Congress. That must end today. This is a national tragedy and it demands a national response. My deepest sympathies are with the families of all those affected, and my determination to stop this madness is stronger than ever.

Mayor Bloomberg?  Plutocrat d*psh*t?  Your response to a tragedy in another state is to demand “leadership” in putting sanctions against the law-abiding citizens who didn’t and  will never kill anyone?

  1. Calling for ‘meaningful action’ is not enough. We need immediate action.
So hizzoner is calling for ‘immediate action’ rather than ‘meaningful action’?

  2. bloomberg, like obama, Regime Radio (NPR), the MSM, and DG (who can’t find her homework) callously want to plunder the dead of Newtown for their personal and ideological gain. It is abominable!

  3. It is abominable!

Abomoniable, yes. Unprecedented, no. That is all they have left – politics of hate.

  4. The gun control chanting has begun again. There must be a fill-in-the-blanks master script somewhere, because they all sound the same.
Here’s Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post:
“We are not helpless to stop the massacre of innocent children.”
Right away, stake out the position with the appeal that it’s “for the children”. That way, anyone who disagrees must, logically, hate children.
“Tough, effective, nationwide gun control is the most effective single initiative we could undertake”
His editor should have removed the tautological “effective”. He also needs to define “tough”, leaving it to the reader to imagine how it will take place. A nationwide house to house search? Now we’re talking about more than just the Second Amendment.
“There is no reason an everyday citizen needs to possess a Bushmaster AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle”
So, single out a weapon used by the killer, forgetting that Charles Whitman did just fine with a bolt action Remington 700, Tim McVeigh with fertilizer.
“Lanza’s mother…knew her 20-year-old son had profound psychological problems. She should at least have been required to keep her weapons under lock and key, securely out of his reach.”
Actually, we know only in retrospect he had “profound” problems. He had no police record, never threatened anyone at school, never attempted suicide. He had far less psycho-pathology that many kids in schools today, who constantly threaten their teachers without conequence. Ask anyone who teaches kids with EBD in Special Ed classes and they’ll tell you: the kids are potentially violent and untouchable.
“We should begin with a strict assault weapons ban. Here are 20 reasons why…[list of twenty child, not adult, victims at Newtown]”
Again with the children. Don’t adults count?

  5. If I’m not mistaken, and I never am, New York city has some of the most restrictive gun control laws on the books.

I’d be more willing to listen to him qua gun control expert when he ponies up the statistics which show how well that’s working within his sphere in direct influence.

  6. RE: “There is no reason an everyday citizen needs to possess a Bushmaster AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle”

this is such BS – the AR-15 is an excellent weapon for hunting coyotes and the 30 round magazine comes in real handy when you’ve got one on the run – they seem to understand the value of running an open field zig-zag pattern and they are Very fast. Its even better if you’re hunting them at night with a night vision scope you can just snap onto the rail system.

  7. The most telling, disingenious, illogical, politically charged and hateful words from Robinson’s quote are highlighted:

“Tough, effective, nationwide gun control is the most effective single initiative we could undertake”

  8. “Its even better if you’re hunting them at night with a night vision scope you can just snap onto the rail system.”

    AND THERE’S MORE

Just slide the julienne attachment on for the best fries you’ve ever tasted!

  9. Keep this in mind, Bloomberg should be in prison for felony straw purchase across state lines!!! He wants more laws, will he violate those as well?

  10. Bloomberg doesn’t think much of the 4th Amendment either. His Police Force has been using the tactic known as Stop and Frisk on people just for being in a certain neighborhood.

  11. jpmn, mock Bloomberg all you want, but his police force leads the nation in DWB arrests, I’m told.

Seriously, if Bloomberg wants me to take him seriously on gun control, he can fire his 24/7 armed security squad. Then I’ll believe he really feels he’s safe without guns.
