The Unemployment Rate Rose By One Last Week

Sandra Fluke got laid off from her position as “Obama Administration Stage Prop”.

Trayvon Martin has the gig now.

I’ve been pondering why the Administration has been going so long on the Martin case.

Certainly the Obama administration has hated guns all along; the President tried use the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to pin responsibility for Mexico’s ‘drug wars on the law-abiding American gun owner.  The fact that the media has been so utterly hands-off with “Fast and Furious” should show you just what an explosive scandal it should be; the Government trying to set up the majority of its own population?

Can you imagine what they’d have said if George W. Bush had used the FBI to set up a sting to try to blame 9/11 on Democrats, purely for political gain on a wedge issue?

So of course, Obama would like to find some way to take a chunk out of firearm rights, a movement that has spit in the eye of the left and (are you listening, MNGOP Legislative caucus) won, and won consistently for the past thirty years, by setting its bar high and not compromising on core principle

But gun control is only part of the story.

Here’s the real story: Afro-Americans are losing their enthusiasm for Obama.   Oh, not in a way that’ll lose him the black vote – but Obama’s initial election depended entirely on a whipped up base.  Obama is going to face an uphill fight getting his based whipped up, though; whatever “recovery” we’re in has largely skipped the black community; the black unemployment rate of 14% (actually up in the past month) only tells part of the story; while 59.6% of the general population is actually working, only 53% of the black working-age population has a job.

That’s catastrophic.  Not only has the black community not gotten any of the hopey-changey yet, it’s inescapable that if you’re black in America, you are worse off than you were four years ago.

Of course, a black kid getting killed is hardly news.  It’s sad but true; it happens all the time.  And the white liberal media could hardly care less; confronting the horrendous death and incarceration rate among black youth – to say nothing of black unemployment – would force them to confront liberalism’s failures, which means confronting its institutional racism.   So while the possibly unjust death of a young black man may be good for enthusiasm points, if it doesn’t get media coverage, it’s the proverbial tree falling alone in a forest.

But when you combine a dead black kid with an issue that does get the white liberal media exercised – their fear of citizens with guns?  You’ve got political gold.  Suddenly, you’ve got media coverage!

And that’s why Trayvon Martin is in the news, and Sandra Fluke is out.  Every dim-bulb that can be fooled into thinking “Republicans will ban contraception” has already been fooled.  Now it’s time to hoodwink the ones that think Republicans want to arm white people to kill black people.

And the media – wittingly or not – is totally on board with that.

  1. Another story that is being played up by the Left as a hate crime:
    http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/mar/24/el-cajon-woman-dies-after-beating-earlier-week/
See http://thinkprogress.org/security/2012/03/25/451369/iraq-muslim-murder-terrorist-hate-crime/ for Thinkprogress’ jump to condemn a violent American racist on the flimsiest of evidence.
I’m no detective — or journalist — but the story as reported stinks.
-The killer supposedly broke in through a sliding glass door, beat the woman to death with a tire iron, then wrote, or dropped a pre-written note, next to her body that said “go back to your own country. You’re a terrorist.”
All the while the dead woman’s daughter was sleeping upstairs.

Something is wrong here. The pieces don’t fit together.
–The only evidence that this was a hate crime is a single piece of paper left next to the body.
    — Asleep upstairs? Really?
    — The murdered woman’s family says that they found a similar note outside the house earlier, but they dismissed it as a prank by kids. I wonder where that note is now?
–The first paragraph of the story reads:
“An Iraqi immigrant and mother of five died Saturday of injuries from a severe beating in her El Cajon home, where a note warning the family to “go back to your own country” was left next to her”, but the note itself, as quoted by the San Diego paper, said “go back to your own country. You’re a terrorist.” Singular, not plural.

I would love to know what the detectives who are investigating the murder think about this case. The story’s only direct quote from the police is:
“Although we are exploring all aspects of this investigation, evidence thus far leads us to believe this is an isolated incident,” Coit said. “A hate crime is one of the possibilities and we will be looking at that. We don’t want to focus on one issue and miss something else.”

  2. “Sandra Fluke got laid off from her position as “Obama Administration Stage Prop”.

Do we owe her compensation for this untimely event?

  3. The more I look at the “anti-muslim hate crime” in El Cajon the stranger it appears.
Although it is described as a hate crime by all the usual journalist outfits, the El Cajon police department hasn’t called it a hate crime. No one has seen the note left next to the body other than family members and the police — and the police haven’t released its contents. The El Cajon police only say that a threatening note was found “very close” to the body. No word on whether the note was discovered by the police or if it was handed to the cops by the family.
Some stories say that the dead woman’s two brothers and her husband worked for the U.S. military as contractors and their job was to train or brief U.S. troops before deployment overseas. The dead woman’s father is said to be a Shia cleric. Her age is given as 32 and she arrived in the U.S. as a refugee in 1992 or 1993 as a refugee after Sadam’s crackdown on the Shia majority in Iraq. She would have been about twelve years old in 1992.
The Iraqi government is demanding that her remains be flown to Iraq. She died Saturday after the family authorized physicians to pull the plug. How can they do an autopsy if her remains are in Iraq? If there is no autopsy, how can a coroner give the cause of death as murder?
The father is said to have been out of the home, taking the smaller children to school when the assault occurred. Was this ordinary behavior? Why was the older daughter still at home?
Time magazine quotes the dead woman’s daughter:
“A week ago they left a letter saying, ‘This is our country, not yours, you terrorists,’” Fatima Al Himidi, Alawadi’s daughter, told KGTV. “So my mom ignored that, thinking (it was) kids playing around, pranking. And so the day they hurt her, they left it again and it said the same thing.”

??!! “they?” not “he” or “she” left a letter? They left the same note again? And the wording was identical? This is too weird.

  4. The best part? They don’t have to worry about Trayvon collecting a government pension!

  5. I’m sure commenter ‘Doggone’ is to busy blending puppies to point out to you that technically you are teh liar – the unemployment rate, based on your example, netted out at zero.
Because I like my torture straight, no chaser, while on the elyptical machine this past Saturday morning, I was watching some gathering of lefty’s on MSDNC called ‘Up With Chris Elliott’ where the host managed to blame the tragic death of Trayvon Martin on a variety of causes including FLA’s Stand your Ground legislation as well as the NRA (something local joke Ron Rosenbaum also did on his KFAN – or is it KTALK? – show). As more and more evidence comes out, this tragedy is coming to resemble the Duke Lacrosse fake rape case of a few years ago, complete with calls for swift street justice from people who generally were against mob lynchings in the past. Hopefully, there will be appropriate justice in this case – for both Trayvon and his family as well as the ‘white’ Hispanic, George Zimmerman (Bob’s cousin apparently).

Further proof that as a political commentator, Dan Barreiro is a hell of a sports columnist.

  7. The unemployment rate rose by one last week, but business is booming in the race hustling industry.

  8. Somebody in the Sanford PD leaked news to the FL media that martyred teen Trayvon Martin had been suspended from school for possession of a marijuana baggie. Furhtermore, there are corroborating witnesses that have stated Martin was on top, pounding the crap out of Zimmerman and attempting to smash his head on the pavement. Sort of makes you wonder what other tidbits may appear.

  9. Zimmerman was right to watch Martin. He was a thief:
Trayvon’s backpack contained 12 pieces of jewelry, in addition to a watch and a large flathead screwdriver, according to the report, which described silver wedding bands and earrings with diamonds.
Trayvon was asked if the jewelry belonged to his family or a girlfriend.
“Martin replied it’s not mine. A friend gave it to me.” he responded, according to the report. Trayvon declined to name the friend.

  10. Mitch,

Your writings on the Martin/Zimmerman case has been absolutely stellar, both on this blog and on MPR.

    You are the man.
