We’ve been talking about this for seven years.
The time has come.
The Minnesota Organization of Bloggers “Day At The Range” will be held…in the very near future.
Here’s the deal:
- We’ll be renting a bay of lanes – probably 5-6 stations on a firing line – at a local gun range. We’ll have ’em rented for four hours.
- The event will be on a weeknight – because ranges are much cheaper to rent on weeknights. This is important because of the next point.
- It’ll be a benefit – details coming soon. Admission will likely be in the $20 range, with proceed going to the benefit.
Now, here’s where MOBsters come in; we need a couple of numbers
- How many people can make it to a gun range in, let’s say, the south suburbs, on a weeknight – say, Wednesday or Thursday.
- How many people can bring some sort of firearm (OK, handgun)
- How many would be willing to share with people who don’t have their own, or who want to try out otoher firearms? (You’ll be on your own for the arrangements for ammo; I’d suggest pro-rating your ammo cost per magazine, or 5-6 shots for revolvers, and taking “suggested donations”.
We don’t have a firm date right now, but we will very shortly.

Mitch, depending on the day I can make it with quite a few toys.
Remember, if this is at Burnsville Range, they don’t allow blackpowder or shotguns. I could look into getting us into an outdoor range if you would like. It’s a bit further south, but we would be able to have more people shooting, and more freedom in guns and ammo usage.
As for ammo, something has worked for us in the past for these type of things is publishing the guns (with calibers) that will be available, and letting the attendees bring ammo for whatever they want to shoot. Owners usually bring extra ammo, and can sell some if someone wants to shoot something they didn’t bring ammo for.

Rob’s suggestion is probably best although I would add that they should stay away from some brands of ammo. I probably wouldn’t let someone shoot Wolf ammo through my handguns.
If the stick to standards – UMC/Rem, Win White Box, S&B, Am Eagle, etc they should be OK

It’s my understanding that the collection of guns owned by Joel Rosenberg are going to be sold in the not distant future. Wouldn’t if be fun if folks could shoot one of his guns in his memory. My guess is Joel would be thrilled.
I’ll be there with my SIG P229 .40 and I’m willing to let others use it.
And Scott, I have a feeling that quite a number of Joel’s firearms will be in attendance.
Bald Eagle is outdoors and has 25, 50, and 100 along with trap range.
They are a private club but can host special events when brought before the board.
I think Oakdale could handle a group as well.
If its indoors, don’t bother… this is summertime and try and shoot outdoors as much as possible (weather permitting).
I will be there with a dozen guns to shoot, in .38/.357, 9mm, and .22.
I’ll also bring the range safety officers and a big box of .22 ammo.
A gun that is always a hit is my AR-15 chambered in .22 caliber. It’s great fun and cheaper than dirt to shoot.
