The First Album Straight Out of Pittsburgh - with a little help from their friends Big Label Blues Joe's Solo Work What the band meant to me I've never been one to insist artists remain exactly as they were when they first came to my attention, even though that first glimpse of talent is usually my favorite.  If Bruce Springsteen had never gone past "Darkness On The Edge Of Town", he'd never have done The Rising - and both are among my favorite albums.

That being said, I can honestly say that Joe Grushecky has never topped those first four, magical albums.   Since the reformed Houserockers appeared in 1989, Grushecky has been hailed as one of the great "Forty Year Old Rockers".  As such, he's wonderful, and has written many great songs from that perspective.  Perhaps it's turning forty myself that's behind the feeling; I get plenty of "tired and resigned and grown-up" in my life as it is; it's enervating to feel 18 and lonesome and ornery and mean again.

This page is also under construction.  It will feature other albums released under the "Houserockers" name - but with vastly different lineups and results- there have been at least half a dozen Houserockers albums; some excellent, some uneven.
